Luke Rockhold vs. Yoel Romero
Prediction: The odds are very close for this match-up, and I can see why. For Yoel Romero, it all depends on if he can finish Luke Rockhold within the first two and a half rounds. He is capable of throwing something unexpected and catching Rockhold off guard. Yoel doesn’t press forward to land his strikes. He likes to sit back and let you come to him, and then he will explode with a big strike. I think that will give Rockhold the distance he wants to get his kicks going. If Rockhold can land kicks to the body, then it will pay dividends on how tired Yoel Romero will be by round 3-5. I think a lot of people are counting on the knockout from Yoel, but I think this is a bad match-up for him. Rockhold likes to keep his distance, so he will not be engaging Yoel in the pocket. Rockhold has great defensive wrestling, so Romero will not be able to do much with takedowns. Rockhold has great cardio, so Romero needs to finish this fight early or he will become a punching bag like he was in his last fight. Romero will be a hard man to win the first couple rounds against because of how strong and explosive he is. He might even have success with his takedowns, but as the fight goes on all of that will disappear. I think Rockhold knows that he has to break Romero down the first couple of rounds, and then he can start to open up a lot more. Once Romero is gassed, I see Rockhold getting this fight down to the ground and working his way into a dominant position where he will find the choke. To me, this is Rockhold’s fight to lose. As long as he takes his time, respects the power, and makes Yoel work hard the first couple of rounds, he should be able to prove that he is the better martial artist. Luke Rockhold by Submission, Round 4.
